Abstract: Death penalty as a form of punishment has generated controversies among scholars, philosophers and stakeholders in the criminal justice system. While some scholars are of the view that death penalty should be abolished from criminal justice system, others opine that it should be retained. The basis of the abolitionism is hinged on the fact that death penalty is cruel, crude and inhumane. They also argue that death penalty violates the sanctity of human life and it antagonises the right to life as guaranteed by the state. Retentionisms on the other hand.......

Title | : | Facebook: The Return of Plato's Allegory of the Cave |
Country | : | Bangladesh |
Authors | : | Muhammad WahidulAlam |
: | 10.9790/0837-2407013642 |
Abstract: The author argues that the discrepancies between our offline and online lives created by Facebook use are like the return of the setting of Plato‟s allegory of the cave. To substantiate this claim, he draws an analogy between the allegory and the process of information gathering and knowledge formation through Facebook. He shows how this analogy bolsters the thesis of the paper by clarifying the fact that many of our Facebook activities are related to the dark side of Facebook use of which we are mostly ignorant .

Abstract: This article inspects the role of syntax as a perceptual cue that arranges the turn taking system of Tunisian Arabic (TA) conversations. It relies on my previous research on intonation (Hami, 2017) [1] to look for the interface between intonation and syntax as organisers of dialogues and speaker change. The study is based on exposing native speakers of TA to isolated and contextualised speech, and asking them to judge the turn type, a probable speaker change, and the signal(s) employed for their judgements. Results show that Turn Leave was depicted (a) at the end of the first part of an adjacency pair in the case of yes/no or wh- questions, (b) when the major functional categories of the.......

Abstract: Kaduna State, formerly the northern administrative capital of the British Colonial Administration in Nigeria, was once known to be a peaceful and attractive cosmopolitan city where people of different ethnic and religious affiliations from around the country coexisted. The State has in contemporary time become a hub for toxic identity based ideologies between these social groups whose interaction gave rise to violent confrontations with devastating consequences on lives and property. This study which is triggered by the reoccurrence of violent identity based conflicts along ethno-religious lines used a triangulation methodological approach and identified the issue of settlement segregation as the core driver of identity based violent conflictsin Kadun State. Findings from the study led to the development of a framework called the Detachment Model (DM) with two sub-programmes; Detachment Model Unlearning Plan (DM-UP)and Detachment Model Perception Shaping Plan (DM-PSP).
