Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the protein composition of pigeon pea Cajnus cajan (L) millspaugh treated with sodium azide and gamma radiation. This was performed by exposing the seeds of landraces pigeon pea to gamma rays at Centre for Radiotherapy and Oncology Department, ABUTH, Shika, Zaria at doses of 0(control), 50, 100, 150 and 200Gy. These seeds were further treated with sodium azide (NaN3) concentrations at 0.00, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.04% SA. The analysis of protein content was the determination of the amount of reduced Nitrogen present in food substance, i.e., its –NH2 and =NH2. The proximate analyses were carried out as recommended by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC, 1990) using the kjeldahl method. The highest crude protein (CP) percentage value was obtained from 150Gy + 0.03%SA (25.1 %), followed by that due to 100Gy + 0.01%SA (24.7 %), 100Gy + 0.04%SA (24.4 %), 100Gy + 0.03%SA (23.7 %) and 150Gy + 0.00%SA (23.6 %). It is, therefore, concluded that the two mutagens significantly affected the pigeon pea plant composition.

Abstract: The isolation and detection of alkaloids content of Morinda lucida (Ezeogwu) from Rubiceace family, a medicinal plant was carried out using solvent extraction process. The dried powdered leaves of the plant were divided into batches. Different solvents were used on them. After 6 days of occasional shaking, it was filtered. The filtrates were used for testing the presence of alkaloids in Morida Lucida. Mayer's reagents Wagner and Lugol's reagents and 5m sodium hydroxide were used as detecting reagents. Mayer's reagent yields cream precipitate in both acidic and alkaline extracts. Wagner and Lugol's reagents yield reddish brown precipitate in both acidic and alkaline extracts. 5ml sodium hydroxide gave white swirling precipitate. Other coloured precipitate like orange and pale orange was gotten as a result of difference in solvents used for isolation. The presence of the above precipitate indicates the presence of alkaloids in Morinda Lucida.

Abstract: The percentage composition of protein, ash content and moisture present in soyabeans consumed in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state were studied. The result showed that sample A which is cultivated at International Institute for Rural Development (IIRD) Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area has the highest Percentage protein content of 39.23 with ash content of 5.30% and moisture content of 8.20% sample B which were bought from Benue State has a Percentage protein content of 37.68, ash content of 5.00% and moisture content of 10.33%. while sample C which were bought from Taraba State has the lowest protein content of 36.74%, ash content of 4.57% and moisture content of 10.97% all the soyabeans sample studied meets the protein standard value of between 36.50 -40 percent.

Abstract:Alcohol is a toxin in higher doses, when it is associated with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) induces oxidative stress & hepatotoxicity Alcohol destroys the cells lining in the stomach and intestines that mediate the absorption of nutrients. Alcohol greatly increases lead absorption. Low concentration of lead may disturb normal biochemical process in the hepato billary system. Lead overload causes liver cells to become enlarged into hyperplasia (initiating the formation of tumours in the liver); Liver cells die more rapidly and are replaced by fatty deposits. Acetaldehyde, a major toxic metabolite, is one of the principal culprits mediating fibrogenic and mutagenic effects of alcohol in the liver. Liver cirrhosis leads to depletion of nutrients The by-products of alcohol metabolism generate oxidants that can contribute to cell damage. An imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants (substances that neutralize oxidation) can create oxidative stress, a state marked by continued production of oxidizing agents and escalation of cell damage,

Abstract: In order to obtain high biotransformation efficiency of rutin to isoquercitrin (quercetin-3-O-glucoside), Bacillus litoralis C44 was treated by UV mutagenesis to screen the thermo- and alkali-tolerant mutants, for these conditions allow for a very high substrate concentration. The optimal mutagen dose for strain C44 was irradiation for 50s with a 15W UV lamp from 30 cm away. The mutants were preliminary screened by quantitative TLC, and 16 mutant strains were faced to second-screening by HPLC. As a result, a genetic stable mutant strain UV-2-45 was obtained, which got a biotransformation rate of 3.9 times more than the original strain Bacillus litoralis C44, and its mole yield reached as high as 91% from 3 g/L of rutin in glycine-sodium hydroxide buffer (pH 9.0) at 45°C for 2 days.

Abstract: RNAi is superannuated cellular mechanism that protect organism against viruses that replicate through double- stranded RNA. RNAi can be used to diminish gene expression from plasmid expressing and inserted sequence repeat. A stable harpin would be expressed after the vector was integrated into the genome. In this paper a shiRNA expressing vector for Neil3 was designed and developed which is capable of replication in MOLT-4. This shiRNA vector had the ability to arose the RNAi pathway, and reduce the gene expression of Neil3. This was assessed by using pSilence 4.1CMV as a vector, and Gapdh as positive control.

Abstract: Ropivacaine is a long acting amide local anesthetic agent ,it is the pure S(-)- enantiomer of propivacaine , and is a long acting amide local anaesthetic agent , eliciting nerve block via reversible inhibition of sodium on influx in nerve fibres. Ropivacaine is less lipophilic than bupivacaine and is less likely to penetrate large mylinated motor fibres, resulting in a relatively reduced motor blockade .The reduced lipophilicity is also associated with decreased potential for central nervous system toxicity and cardiotoxicity.

Abstract: Microalgae based biofuels are getting attention due to energy crisis and enviromental protection. In the present study, the Chlorella sp. was cultivated in BG-11 medium at batch mode. The effect of different nitrogen (sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate and urea) and organic carbon (glucose, glycerol and sucrose) sources were analyzed on growth and lipid accumulation on this species. The highest biomass growth and biomass productivity of chlorella sp. was found 1.29±0.04 g/l, 76.96±4.5mgl-1d-1 in urea. However in case of organic sources, the biomass growth and productivity was found maximum in glucose (1.43±0.075 g/l 86.04±3.2 mgl-1d-1). The lipid content was examined using folch method and found better in potassium nitrate nitrogen source (11.84%) . Among organic carbon sources, the maximum lipid content (13.22% and lipid yield 189.94 mg/l were found in case of glucose, followed by glycerol and sucrose. Various properties of biodiesel obtained from chlorella sp. such as Cetane number, Saponification value, Iodine value and Degree of unsaturation were followed standerds set by the national petroleum agency (ANP255), ASTMD6751 and EN14214. Abstract: Aqueous spore suspensions of 3 different species of Bacillus isolated from Sterile manufacturing were heated at different temperatures for various time intervals in a water bath, counted by plate count method on Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA), and incubated at 32.5 °C. Remaining or resistant spore of isolated Bacillus species form sterile manufacturing of form colonies on TSA. D-Value, the decimal reduction time (time required at a given temperature for destruction of 90% of the cells), when survivors were colonized on TSA and the calculated D-Value are for SMF-B-001, 13.19 ± 0.05919, for SMF-B-002, 12.25 ± 0.051919 and SMF-B-003, 14.09 ± 0.05319 respectively. Recovery on TSA resulted in reduced decimal reduction time showing that damage occurred early in the thermal dealing. Heat sensitive spores showed sensitivity also to other post processing environmental factors such as incubation temperatures, a pH of 7.3 ± 0.3 for the medium.

Abstract: Ethnobotanical survey was conducted district Layyah, during 2010. The survey was conducted along with Chowk Azam road in some of villages including chaks i.e chak no 145.A/T.D.A,146.A/T.D.A,151/T.D.A,128/T.D.A and chak no 120/T.D.A tehsil and district Layyah. From each village 20 People were selected randomly by lottery method for consultation. For more ethnobotanic information some traditional healers were interviewed. Present study focused on local inhabitants who use traditional resources for self-medication with particular reference to ethnopharmacological application of plant species for diseases and natural cosmetics.

Abstract: Insilico potential drug target identification involves chemical compounds for inhibiting or promoting chemical reactions in living organism computational methods are needed for screening through large database of these to identify a inhibitor for receptor 0ral Multi-AGC Kinase was employed for docking.We investigated the detailed pharmacology and antitumour activity of the novel clinical drugs and natural ligand. It is associated with Oral Multi-AGC kinase protein. The various ZINC analogs on basis of 99%, 95%, 90% similarity for best docking results with protein for predicting a ZINC analog which can be identified under the category of becoming a potential drug candidate in future. The best mol dock score were for ZINC analog ZINC ID 72131268 for Irinotecan is -169.087 kcl/mol, ZINC ID 04166028 for Teniposide is -178.235 kcl/mol, ZINC ID 30731084 for Topotecan is -166.939 kcl/mol and ZINC ID 00899824 for Curcumin is -141.537 kcl/mol. The two parameter for toxicity properties i.e. Oral LD50 and Mutagenicity were calculated. Oral LD50 and Mutagenicity values are found.

The three dipterous flies were Luciliasericata, Chrysomyasp and Musca domestica..The three flies were all of medical importance.The microbial load on three species of flies was investigated using standard plate count methods.

Abstract:Cordyceps militaris is one of the well described mushrooms and has been extensively used in Traditional Chinese Complementary Medicine (TCCM) since many centuries. It has been cultivated naturally or in submerged culture using different types of media. Fungal mycelia contain adenosine, cordycepin, and polysaccharides, which are responsible for its biological activities. Cordycepin is the best-known and most potent mushroom-derived substances possessing anticancer, antitumor and immunomodulating activities. This mushroom characterized by very low growth rate when grown in solid agar medium for inoculum preparation during cultivation process.

Abstract:S.caryophyllatum (L.) Alston belongs to the family Myrtaceae is an endangered species. It possesses traditional as well as pharmacological properties. The objective of the present investigation was to find out the antibacterial activity of S. caryophyllatum leaf methanolic extract against some human pathogenic bacteria. It was followed by Disc Diffusion method using gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, Sarcina lutea, Esherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella Spp., Salmonella typhi and Proteus mirabilis. The result showed that the inhibitory effect on Bacillus subtilis (24mm) was high when compared to E. coli (21mm) and Bacillus cereus (20mm).This effect on the bacterial strains may be due to the presence of secondary metabolites present in the leaf methanolic extract of Syzygium caryophyllatum.

Abstract: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) constitute a huge burden on health systems, and medication errors (MEs) are the most common preventable cause of adverse drug events. In developed countries pharmacists contribute to a great extent in ADR monitoring and reporting, improving patient quality of care and safety. This review aims to explore pharmacists' practices and views on ADR reporting, extent and causes of MEs and other health professionals expectations of pharmacists in this regards. An extensive literature search was conducted using pertinent electronic health databases (ProQuest, PubMed, Embase, and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, and the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature). Hand-searching of the references retrieved was also performed.
