Title | : | Gender Stereotypism in the Pictorial Depictions of Primary School Text Books |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Moly Kuruvilla || Thasniya K.T. |
ABSTRACT: Irrespective of the vast fund of information in the e –world, textbooks in schools still have a significant role in educating children as sources of knowledge and information for students and as a term of reference for teachers. At the same time text books promote gender stereotypism through their content, language and pictorial representations. Despite the several interventions taken to remove the sexist bias in educational system, it still exists as a formidable challenge to the development of egalitarian gender relations in the growing minds. A content analysis of the pictures portrayed in the English and Malayalam language text books of primary classes was undertaken to assess the extent of gender bias and stereotypism projected in them.

Title | : | Quality of Public Financial Management in Bangladesh: An Analysis from PEFA Framework Perspective |
Country | : | Bangladesh |
Authors | : | Sk. Sharafat Hossen |
ABSTRACT: In recent years, the importance of sound public financial management (PFM) system is growing in developing countries especially in the high aid recipient countries of the sub-Saharan Africa and south and south-east Asia because the efficient use of funds from foreign assistance highly depends on the public financial management system of the recipient country. As a developing country with moderate degree of dependency on foreign assistance, Bangladesh also needs a sound PFM system which will ultimately support better governance to achieve the pro-poor developmental objectives of the government. This study mainly tries to measure the quality of PFM system in Bangladesh on the basis of Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) assessment done by the World Bank in 2006 and Government of Bangladesh (GoB) in 2010.

Title | : | On Etulo ideophones |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Adaobi Ngozi Okoye || Martha Chidimma Egenti |
ABSTRACT: On the basis of the initial definition of ideophone as vivid representation of an idea in sound which may be described as predicate, qualificative or adverbial in respect to manner, colour, smell, action, state or intensity (Doke, 1935:118), the paper is aimed at exploring some of these features in Etulo language which is an endangered minority language spoken in Benue State, Nigeria. Primary data were collected from native speakers of Etulo language resident in Adi, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State through the use of digital recorders. The paper examines the identified ideophones along the line of the features of ideophones that have been identified cross-linguistically in the literature. The following findings could be confirmed for ideophones in Etulo. First, ideophones perform both adverbial and adjectival functions in the language. Secondly, tonally, there is preponderance of low tone than high tone. Thirdly, in terms of their syllabic structure, Etulo ideophones adhere to the syllable structure of the language, and partial and full reduplication can also be confirmed.

Title | : | Fundamental Causes of Poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa |
Country | : | Swaziland |
Authors | : | Francois I. Kabuya |
ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes the fundamental causes of poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. It defines poverty and types of poverty, distinguishes between the proximate and fundamental causes of poverty, describes the vicious circle of poverty, reports poverty statistics in developing world,explains the role of government, and discusses the developmental state and growth-enhancing governance. The paper argues that pro-poorflawed policies, weak economic and political institutions, and culture may be the fundamental causes of poverty in the region.Transforming or building economic policies and institutions that aim at stimulating growth of labor income and inclusive economic growth in taking the human factors into account may improve welfare where extreme poverty is pervasive.
