Title | : | A Rare Case of Huge Retrosternal Goitre Managed by Total Thyroidectomy with Medial Sternotomy |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Ashwin Apte || Dr Vishal Patil || Dr Ravi Gupta || Dr Rahul Patel |
Abstract: Retrosternal goitre is very rare condition which account for 5 to 20 % of thyroidectomy patients. Though rare, it can be better managed surgically. In this article we report a rare case of 60 year old female who had nodular goiter with huge retrosternal extension. Majority of retrosternal thyroid can be removed safely by conventional cervical approach. Our patient had around 20 x 18 x 6 cm mass which was impossible to remove it from conventional approach and hence total thyroidectomy with medial sternotomy was done. Procedure was uneventful and patient is doing fine in of follow-up. The role of thyroidectomy in patients with retrosternal goitre provides yet another area of surgical controversy

Country | : | Iraq |
Authors | : | Dr. Afya Sahib Diab Al-Radha.B.D.S; M.Sc; MFDSRCPS (Glasgow), Ph.D (UK). |
Abstract: Purpose: The study was conducted to evaluate the effect etching with different types of acids on sandblasted titanium dental
implant surface topography. Materials and Methods: Pure polished titanium discs were blasted with Aluminum oxide powder (Al2O3) with particle size 50 μm using 4.5 bar pressure. Then the blasted discs were etched using different acids solutions separately for 5 min, 15 min, 30 min. Surface roughness was measured using profilometry. Topography was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: The morphology and the surface roughness of titanium discs was changed dramatically after blasting with alumina, a rough surface was visible to the naked eye with Ra value of 0.627 μm.................

Abstract: Mechanical oral hygiene procedures are most widely accepted procedures for controlling bacterial plaque, but these methods have certain limitations. Based on several clinical trials, chlorhexidine mouthrinse have been accepted as a benchmark to be used as an adjunct to mechanical oral hygiene aids, however it is associated with side effects in its long term use. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the antiplaque efficacy of a herbal Aloe vera mouthrinse and compare it to gold standard Chlorhexidine. A randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled, three group crossover, four day de novo plaque accumulation model was used................

Authors | : | Hanali Abu Shilbayih || Nezar Watted || Azzaldeen Abdulgani || Muhamad Abu-Hussein |
Abstract: Avulsion of permanent front teeth is a rare accident, mostly affecting children between seven and nine years of age. Replanted and splinted, these teeth often develop inflammation, severe resorption or ankylosis affecting alveolar bone development and have to be extracted sooner or later. This report proposes a discussion on the various peculiarities of a tooth avulsion case with immediate replantation, such as a long retention period, root canal filling with MTA, orthodontic treatment .

Title | : | Outcomes And Predictors of Outcome In Malaria AKI: A Single Centre Experience |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Sameer M.S || Dr Manjunath J |
Abstract: Malaria has protean clinical manifestations and acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of its serious and life threatening complications. The overall prevalence of AKI in falciparum malaria varies between <1 and 60%, with the mortality rate as high as 45%. None of the studies on malaria and AKI have classified AKI on AKIN criteria. We plan to look at outcomes of Malaria AKI based on severity of AKI and organ dysfunction. Outcomes are need for HD and mortality...............
