ABSTRACT: One of the major reasons of low productivity insolanaceous vegetables is the lack of technical knowledge of the farmers about judicious andtimely implementation of the management strategies against the major biotic stresses (insect pests and diseases)which ultimately reduce its return. Considering the fact front line demonstrations on need based plant protection in solanaceousvegetables were conducted in farmers' fields at different villages of the Keonjhar district, under north eastern plateau zones of odisha, during 2011-12 and 2012-13 to show the productivity potential and profitability of Improved Technologies (IT). The results recorded higher mean productivity ranges from 19.7% to 38%, gross returns, additional net return, B: C ratio and ICBR value ranges from 6.4 for need based plant protection in solanaceous vegetables to 13.6 in the IT plots than the farmers' practice plots indicating the technical and economic feasibility of IT over FP(Farmers Practices).

ABSTRACT: The experiment was conducted on experimental farm of Department of Agricultural Meteorology, College of Agriculture, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani, during kharif season 2012-13 entitled as "Yield Forecasting of Sorghum by using Statistical Model" to find out most optimum meteorological week for sowing sorghum in kharif season, to study the relationship between meteorological parameters and yield and to develop statistical model for yield forecasting. The results were obtained from the experiment it was found that all the biometric observations (plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, LAI and dry matter ) in kharif sorghum were significantly highest in treatment of sowing in 24 MW (11 to 17 June) followed by second sowing date 25 MW (18 to 24 June). Amongst the varieties all the biometric observations were recorded significantly highest in V1 (PSH-71). Sowing in 24 MW significantly superior over the rest of treatments with production of highest grain yield 1482.10 kg ha-1 followed by sowing in second sowing date 25MW 1444.2 kg ha-1 which was at par with sowing in 24 MW in respect to all yield attributing characters and lowest grain yield was observed in fourth sowing i.e 27 MW 1119.31 kg ha-1. Hence, sowing of kharif sorghum should be completed on 24 MW or before 25 MW; otherwise there is chance of reduction of grain yield with delayed sowing.

ABSTRACT: The research was conducted to evaluate the effect of non - genetic factors on production traits in Deoni cattle. Data representing 114 Deoni cows from 211 total records of lactation over a 30 years period were analysed to determine the effect of age at first calving, season of calving and period of calving on production traits. The overall least squares means of lactation milk yield, peak milk yield, days to reach peak milk yield, lactation period and dry period were 358.31 27.18, 3.14 0.18, 44.81 2.52, 213.90 13.74 and 211.93 26.23. The age at first calving were significant effect on lactation milk yield, peak milk yield and days to reach peak milk yield, whereas non significantly affected on lactation period and dry period. All sources of variation for season of calving on production traits were non significant. The period of calving had significant effect on lactation milk yield, peak milk yield and dry period, whereas non significantly affected on days to reach peak milk yield and lactation period.

ABSTRACT: The research was conducted to evaluate the effect of non - genetic factors on reproduction traits in Holstein Friesian x Deoni cattle. Data representing 287 Holstein Friesian x Deoni cows from 1177 total records of lactation over a 30 years period were analysed to determine the effect of age at first calving, season of calving and period of calving on reproduction traits. The overall least squares means of age at first calving, service period, gestation period and inter calving period were 1414.78 8.73, 158.70 4.10, 274.93 0.70 and 431.74 4.25, days respectively. The age at first calving were significant effect on service period, gestation period and non significant effect on inter calving period. All sources of variation for season of calving on reproduction traits were non significant. The period of calving had significant effect on age at first calving, service period, gestation period, whereas non significantly affected on inter calving period.

ABSTRACT: This study was conducted in one of thecommercial farmof poultryin the Diwaniyahcity for the period from 13/01/2014 until 13/03/2014 in order to study the effect of addition of driedSaccharomyces cerevisiae to the diet of laying hens in physiological traits and qualitiesof the product quality of the eggs by using 45 type egg-laying hensESA Brown, aged 40 weeks and randomly distributed on the three treatments and each treatment consisted of three replicates and (five hens in one replicate).The treatments of the experiment as follows:T1 treatment represented the group of control thatfed on the basal diet without any additives,T2 treatment represented the second group of birds that fedon the basal diet plus 0.2% of Saccharomyces cerevisiae,T3 treatment fed onbasal diet plus 0.3% Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

ABSTRACT: The growth response, nutrient utilization, cost benefits and haematological responses of three hundred (300) Heterobranchus longifilis fingerlings stocked at twenty per 50L plastic bowls in triplicate were fed full-fatted maggot meal supplemented diets for 70 days in mini-flow through system. Five diets name MM1 –0% maggot meal, MM2 –25% maggot meal, MM3-50% maggot meal, MM4- 75% maggot meal and MM5- 100% maggot meal that were isonitrogenous at 40.0% CP and caloric content range of 2017.9 – 2092.3kJ/100g were fed to the fish.

ABSTRACT: The objectives of the study were to evaluate and compare the growth performance (body weight, BWT, and body weight gain, BWG), feed intake (FI) and feed:gain (F:G) of G1 and G2 generations of inbred Nigerian indigenous chickens (NIC). A total of 500 chicks (250/generation) were used for the study. The G1 birds were produced from sire families established from a base population of random breeding NIC whereas the G2 birds were progenies of half and full sib matings involving the G1 population. Result showed significant (P˂ 0.05) sire and line effects for BWT in G1 and G2 generations, respectively. Feed intake did not vary much between sire groups (G1 generation) but varied without a definite trend between sire lines in G2 generation.

ABSTRACT: The study was carried out to investigate gender differences in rural households' food security coping strategies in South-Western Nigeria. A multi stage sampling technique was used in selecting 252 respondents utilized for the study. A well-structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from them. The result shows that the females were older than the male with a mean age of 50 and 45 years respectively. Most of the male respondents were married as against the females.
