Abstract: The emasculation of the Nigerian state and her subsequent economic dilemma in contemporary times have been linked to the hitherto activities of colonialism in Nigeria. The impact of the incursion of the British into the traditional native states and the subsequent amalgamation of these states into one country with total disregard for the choices, feelings, values, language, religion and culture of the people, is still evidenced today as hate speeches, lopsided political appointments, and skewed choices of areas of government attention is rampant. The mention of the concept of federal character, zoning and rotational presidency, and quota system serves as added impetus. The call for cessation..........

Abstract: The question of whether translation is science, art or skill seems to be still discussed until now, and it is still unclear what the answer is. Some say that translation is a science because it requires a complete knowledge of the structure in the preparation of the two languages concerned and the translation must be done based on theories of language. Some say translation is art because it requires artistic talent to reconstruct original text in the form of products that are suitable for readers who are unfamiliar with the original and to release the text from "previous dependence on cultural knowledge‟. Meanwhile, some say that translation is a skill because it requires the ability to overcome difficulties in translation, the ability to provide translations that are not suitable with the target language, and it requires trainingunder supervision. In this paper, we discuss about the role of these three types.........

Abstract: Despite the concerted efforts to eliminate the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) infection and Acquired Immuno-deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), new HIV infections are still on the rise especially among the adolescents and young people (AYP) aged 15-24 years. In Kenya, 29% of all the new HIV infections are occurring among AYP (NASCOP, 2015). It is also estimated that 16% of all people living with HIV and those who are in need of antiretroviral therapy (ART) are AYP.The key driver of HIV infection within this age bracket is heterosexual transmissions. Young people comprise a significant population for the development of any nation. Thus, their health and behavioral/moralstability is of utmost importance. There is therefore an urgent need to put extra efforts in advocating for practical prevention.......

Abstract: The essence of Indian society lies in its traditions and culture. Painting is a mode of creative expression, and the forms are numerous. It can be naturalistic and representational or be loaded with narrative content. Numerous types of paintings have emerged in the due course of time in different geographical locations as a result of religious and cultural impact. The style and variety of Indian paintings is as vivid as the colorful Indian culture. Right from tribal to rural to urban manifestations, it has achieved magnificence in all forms. Traditional paintings and art often reflect the culture and tradition of the place from which they originate. They tend to be a reflection of the times in which the art was created. Madhubani is a traditional art from a Ranti village, Madhubani district in Bihar originated about 2500 years ago which is very much thriving. Title | : | Marshall-Lerner Condition and J Curve Phenomenon: Evidence from Nigeria |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | BigBen Chukwuma Ogbonna |

Abstract: This study was commissioned to investigate for the presence of Marshall-Lerner condition and J-curve phenomenon in Nigeria's foreign trade bustles. We implemented co-integration approach in data analysis. The results obtained indicate that in both long and short runs, Marshall Lerner condition is not verified for Nigeria and that the concept of J-curve effect is not identified either. This suggests that elasticity approach to balance of payments adjustments may not be intended for efficient and effective management of developments in trade balance of Nigeria. On the above note, the study recommends that rather than relying on exchange rate policy of devaluation (price effect) for management of deficits in the balance of trade, government may evolve comprehensive policies, inclusive of direct control such as import quota and restrictions, increased investments in import substitution industries, increased investment and diversification of export base through appropriate incentives.
