Abstract: Autism is a global disorder which is markedly increasing in recent decades, so researchers speak of "epidemic outbreak" of the disease. Although the diagnostic framework has been expanded and more disorders now fall within the autistic spectrum still no one disputes the increased incidence of autism in modern societies, thus making it a major global public health problem.Poor knowledge about childhood autism among paediatric nurses who are members of multidisciplinary teams who care for these children may be a major barrier to early interventions that could perhaps improve theirquality of life and prognosis. Moreover, several factors that influence knowledge about childhood autism among these nurses are up till now must be fully ascertained.............

Abstract: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the commonest source of HIV infection among children. The prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV programme is one effective strategy to reduce the rate of HIV infection in children. The programme was implemented nationally in South Africa in 2002. An increase in HIV transmission rate at 18 months of age was reported despite the PMTCT interventions. A Quantitative descriptive retrospective correlational study was conducted to identify factors associated with the HIV transmission rate in 18 to 24 month-old children enrolled in the PMTCT programme. Data was collected from 60 mothers and 152 records of children on PMTCT programme and analysed using the SAS/JMP version...........

Abstract: A survey for adult Ixodes scapularis Say and mites was conducted in October at Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) located in northeastern Pennsylvania, USA. Acarines were collected by trap and cloth drag. Menhinick's index and analysis of variance were used to compare mite diversity among soil types. Dragging for adult I. scapularis was conducted throughout TYAD, representing 96% of soil types. Forty individuals from 7 groups of acarines were collected representing Collohmanniadae, Ixodidae, Johnstonianidae, Oribatululoidea, Tetranychidae, Trombiculidae, and Trombidiidae. The Bioagent Transport and Environmental Modeling System was used to compare the presence and......

Abstract: Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a cluster of various health conditions caused to a person infected with HIV. Although the prevalence rate and its incidence has been increasing over time, the knowledge regarding it is seen to be poor. Not only this, the society also holds lot of stigma towards HIV/AIDS as a result of misconceptions. More often, children and adolescents are seen to have little knowledge that increases over time with maturity and education, inversely decreasing their misconceptions. Method: The present study aimed to understand the conceptualization of HIV/AIDS among Indian school children, using a qualitative approach. The study also attempted to identify a progressive change in the concept of HIV/AIDS from class 6 to class 12 students across India. Students belonging to the age group of 11 years to 18 years falling in the classes of 6th class to 12th class were chosen to fill an open ended question. Data from 784 participants were collected and analysed.
