Abstract: Background: Hibiscus sabdariffa drink ("zobo") is a sweetened thirst-quenching beverage with high nutritional value and health benefits. The drink is made from the hot water extract of H. sabdariffa calyx, and consumed popularly in Nigeria, and other West African countries. Although much is known about the nutritional profile of "zobo," and volatile constituents of H. sabdariffa parts, there is paucity of information on volatile compounds in the drink. Materials and Methods: The drink was prepared from hot water extract of dried red H. sabdariffa calyx, mixed with freshly prepared juice of pineapple, watermelon, carrot, cucumber, beetroot, ginger, cloves, and dates. The essential oil from the sample was gotten using hydrodistillation. Fatty acids extraction was done with Soxhlet apparatus. Abstract: Brassica juncea was infected with the angiosperm parasite, Cuscuta reflexa, on 24 DAS (days after sowing). A noteworthy reduction (44%) in carbon dioxide assimilation in leaves was found compared to normal plant, when both were assayed on 38 DAS. At this stage, the chloroplast lipid in infected leaves had decreased by 33%, with a reduction of 11, 39 and 53%, respectively, in neutral, glyco- and phospholipids. Among the glycolipids, the decrease in the content of MGDG, DGDG and SQDG was 23, 69 and 45%, respectively, with 2.4-fold increase in the MGDG/DGDG ratio. Abstract:Amylases are a group of hydrolases that can specifically cleave the α-glycosidic linkage in starch. -amylases (endo-1, 4- -D-glucan glucohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.1) are extra cellular enzymes that randomly cleave the 1,4- -D-glycosidic bonds between adjacent glucose units in the linear amylase chain and are classified according to their action and properties. In the present investigation production of extracellular α-amylase by Aspergillus oryzae, Penicillium chrysogenum and Rhizopus stolonifer isolated from slice breads was studied at different pH, temperature, incubation periods, carbon and nitrogen sources. The results revealed that maximum production of α-amylase was achieved at 7 days of incubation, 300C temperature and at pH 7.0. Glucose was the best carbon source which induced maximum production of α-amylase followed by fructose and sucrose. Ammonium sulphate and peptone were the best nitrogen sources for the production of α-amylase.

Abstract: Cicer arietinum L. is a much branched erect or spreading annual, 25-50 cm tall. The leaves are imparipinnate with 9 to 15 pairs of ovate, elliptic or obovate leaflets with serrate margin. All parts of the plant are clothed with clavate grandular hairs, the secretions of which are rich in oxalic and malic acids that impart a sour taste to the leaves and fruits. The flowers, varying in color from white to pink, are usually borne singly. The pods are small (up to 3x2 cm) but inflated and contain one or two seeds which are angular with a prominent beak and small hilum at the anterior end. The seed coat may be wrinkled, smooth or rough, ranging in color from white, yellow, red, brown to nearly black. The cotyledons are thick and yellowish.........
