Title | : | Comparative study of perception of stigma among caregivers of persons with Bipolar affective disorder and Schizophrenia |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Pravin B. Yannawar || Jahanara M. Gajendragad || Sangeeta Gotewal || Shashi Bhushan Singh |
Abstract: Many people with serious mental illness struggle with the symptoms and disabilities that result from the disease and are also challenged by the stereotypes and prejudices that result from misconceptions about mental illness. As a result of both, people with mental illness are robbed of the opportunities that define a good quality life: good jobs, safe housing, satisfactory health care, and affiliation with a diverse group of people. There are still attitudes within most societies that view symptoms of psychopathology as threatening and uncomfortable, and these attitudes frequently foster stigma and discrimination towards people with mental illness. Stigma may result in various forms of exclusion or discrimination – either within social circles or the workplace.

Title | : | A Spatio-Temporal Study on Urbanization in the Darjeeling Himalaya: A Demographic Perspective |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Sherap Bhutia |
Abstract: In this paper an attempt has been made to identify the nature and present scenario of urbanization and their constraints to economic development and future prospect. Urbanization is usually thought to be a consequence of the growth of large scale industries, expansion of administrations, development of transport and communication and growth of trading activities. As a process, urbanization has not been deeply involved in the economic emancipation of this hill region, but there is no denying the fact that acting as major nodes, they have always taken a leading role in its economic reorganization.

Title | : | Present Status of Solid Waste Management System in Asansol Municipal Corporation |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Mr. Sarbeswar Haldar |
Abstract: Indian society represented a conflicting position of women vacillating between extremes of patriarchy and matriarchy. While Sati - the barbarous practice negated woman life on its own, tying her with the innate presence of her husband even in his life after death, female goddesses in different forms like Sita-Parvati-Durga or Lakshmi dominated the core of Hinduism and Hinduized way of life, as the ultimate source of strength, wealth and wisdom. However the goddesses themselves and their stories of immense power always had an overarching presence of elements like respect for husband, sacrifice and one‟s duty towards the larger society. In this patriarchal society the women‟s question thus had an overarching presence ,but was always answered by others rather than woman herself.

Title | : | Gender Stereotyped Portrayal of Women in the Media: Perception and Impact on Adolescent |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Archana Kumari || Himani Joshi |
Abstract: It has been widely recognized that media can play an instrumental role in bringing social transformation and social change by promoting and disseminating information. The content of media reflects the pattern of value in any society. The prevailing attitude of the society gets revealed through the way subjects dealing with women are treated by the media. Whether deliberately or unintentionally, the way women have been portrayed in media is exaggerated form of real life circumstances and assumptions and it has very little relationship with the real life. The matter of concern is that it has a great impact on life style of today's adolescents as they imitate and identify themselves with the character shown in the content of programmes of printed or electronic media
