Title | : | Dowry and Alcoholism as Major Causes for Domestic Violence in Kerala |
Country | : | India |

Abstract: Domestic violence has been defined in many lights by various strands of knowledge. Psychological explanations were the centre-staged, up until the feminist theoretical positions have started to question them. In-depth studies on Domestic Violence provide evidence that the causes behind the issue are multi-pronged. The factors that regulate the violent behavior and situations are aplenty. The study attempts to cross examine 150 cases that have been registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDVA, 2005) in the state of Kerala, India. The cases were brought to Women Protection Officers in three districts in the state, i.e., Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulum. In depth analysis of these purposively identified cases concludes and establishes that alcohol addiction of male partners and dowry related issues remain the major reasons for Domestic Violence in Kerala, surpassing all other causal factors. But property based issues were the maincause for violence against mothers in the age group of 50-90 years.

Abstract: In 1923 a German translation to Baudelaire‟s Tableaux Parisiens was published by Walter Benjamin. The Introduction to this book termed as Die Aufgabe des Ubersetzers was later published by Harry Zohn in 1969 under the title The Task of the Translator. This piece with time became one of the most important philosophical texts that discussed literal translation. According to Benjamin the true purpose of a translation is neither to bring out the original information in the text nor make its meaning more understandable. He opined that a translation exists by its own claim in its time and in the after-life in conjunction with the source text. He termed the translated text to be "the after-life/continued life‟ of the source text. The survival of the original text depends on its recreation. According to Benjamin a good translation is one which informs the primary reciprocal connection between languages (Toury, 1995, 55).

Abstract: According to Amartya Sen (1992) "Women Empowerment is the ability of women to exercise full control over one‟s actions and is one of the central issues in the process of development for many countries in the world today." Women are empowered when they have the freedom to control and command their own lives. Economic empowerment increases women‟s access to economic resources and opportunities including jobs, financial services, property, skill development and market information. One way of ensuring such economic empowerment of Indian women is through 'enhanced role of education'. This paper aims to focus on the economic empowerment of women by considering the enhanced role of education to eradicate gender inequality. This study tries to establish the importance of education by means of primary data collection and analysis in Delhi region for educated and uneducated women and ascertain the detrimental role of the same in the economic empowerment of women.

Abstract: Child labour is a global problem and it is one of the obstacles in the achievement of international frameworks such as Sustainable Development Goals as well as national ones like vision 2030 in Kenya. It equally has caused death of about twenty two thousand children in the world annually. The malpractice is widespread and indicates a paradigm shift in the prevalence especially in developing countries whereby it causes negative consequences on sustainable community development. The overall objective of the study was to assess the prevalence of child labour in Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma in Nzoia region of Kenya. This was with specific interest on the dynamics currently caressing the child labour. This study used the descriptive survey design with a sample size of 500 people...........

Abstract: In Nigeria particularly since the commencement of the fourth phase of democratic experiments in 1999 to date, several scholarly works has been done to unravel the causes of low participation of women in politics. The present study building on these previous researches instead of x-raying reasons for low women participation in broader politics descended low to study in-depth the reasons for low women participation in only elective positions/offices which represents just a leaf in the whole big tree of politics. To achieve this, two research questions were coined. These include "what are the reasons for low women presence in elective offices in Nigeria? and "How could low women presence in elective positions offices in Nigeria be corrected?" Documentary sources of data collection and analysis was adopted............
