Title | : | Role of Generalized Expectancies, Need-Achievement in Persisting Behavior of Adolescents on a Task of Intermediate Difficulty Level |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Rekha sharma |
Abstract: 180 male students of 10+1&10+2 were tested on Rotter's scale of locus of control and TAT ((3BM, 6BM, 7BM, 8BM, 10 & 20) in experimentally induced situations of probability of success of Ps.50 by specific instructions. An Insoluble figure--- 'perceptual reasoning task' was used to test persistence of externally & internally controlled Ss who were high and low on need-achievement. Analysis of variance & t-test were used for analysis of data. Findings concluded that----- (1) High need-Achievers persisted longer in comparison to Low need-Achievers at a task of intermediate difficulty level.(2) LOC, generalized expectancy, does not show any significant effect independently at a task of PS.50.(3) when LOC interacted with motive strength, it acted significantly.(4) High motive strength (MS>MAF) showed that internally controlled LOC subjects (Ss) and externally controlled LOC SS, both behaved in a same manner and showed no significant difference in persistence.(5) Internally controlled LOC SS persisted longer than externally controlled LOC SS with Low motive to succeed.( 6) externally controlled LOC Ss persisted less in comparison to internally controlled LOC Ss with high motive to succeed .

Title | : | Achieving Strategic-Fit in Private Banks - A Study of Indian Banking Sector |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Parul Jhajharia || Ritika Kaur |
Abstract: The key objective of the study is to examine that whether strategic fit exists between various business and human resource strategies of private banks in India. Strategic Human Resource Strategies (SHRM) processes used by the organisations can be aligned, integrated or separate. To reach at strategic fit, it is important that HR strategy to be a part of business strategy forming an integrated process. Data collection is done by the way of Questionnaire and is personally administered to clarify the data. The respondents consist of 50 Managers with diverse roles and functions. These 50 respondents comprised 30 General Managers (i.e., Managers of the strategic Business units) and 20 Managers in charge of the Human Resource function at these Banks. The results propose that in order to study the presence of a strategic role orientation, a wider analytical outline is required that both includes multiple elements within the HR function – especially its structure, extent of devolution of HR activities and skill-set of workforces – and responds to the various and differing viewpoints of different participants in a complex and fast-changing industry environment.

Title | : | Poverty and the Sustainability of Democracy in Nigeria |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Oluwatusin, A. O. (PhD) || Abolarin-Egbebi, A. F. |
Abstract:On 29th May, 1999, Abdulsalam Abubakar, the then military Head of State handed over power to a democratically elected government headed by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Many Nigerians believed this was the dawn of a new era and another attempt at democratising the country which will usher in a better society- one that truly brings the genuine dividends of democracy to the people. Unfortunately, democracy has not have significant and direct benefit to the people, particularly those at the lower strata of the society because of the rising incidence of poverty in the country. Poverty is made manifest in unemployment, hunger, poor health, poor standard of education, low self-esteem, low economic status, lack of security and exclusion from civic and political life which negate the essentials of democracy. This paper chiefly examines the threats of poverty to the sustainability of democracy in Nigeria and make suggestions on how the country can come out of the mire of poverty so that democracy can be sustained and thereby have the expectant effects on Nigerians.

Title | : | One Hundred Years of Nationhood and the Challenges of Nation Building in Nigeria. |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Ikyase Johnkennedy Tersoo || Egberi Anthony Ejue |
Abstract: This paper seeks to examine one hundred years of Nigerian existence and the challenges of nation-building. Some literatures on the subject were reviewed while data analyses are from secondary sources. The elite theory was used to explain the issues therein. The paper reveals that since the amalgamation of Northern and southern protectorate in 1914 into a single entity by Lord Lugard, the country has been struggling on how to effectively build the nation with series of problems spanning from bad governance, socio-economic inequality, federal character dilemma, ethno-religious crises, corruptions, leadership, etc. These obstacles have over the years threatened our national integration principle which is based on building a strong and prosperous nation irrespective of our differences.

Title | : | Violence against Women in India |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Ms. R. Kalaiyarasi |
Abstract:Women in India have always been issues of concern. The folks and society at large consider women as second class citizens. Though we admire and preach them in the name of Durga, Saraswati, Parvati and Kali, we also abuse her in the form of Child-marriage, Female infanticide, Sati, Sexual harassment, Dowry and so on. The status of women in India has been subject to many great alterations over the past few millenniums. From a largely unknown status in ancient times through the low points of the medieval period, to the promotion of equal rights by many reformers, the history of women in India has been lively. The status of women has varied in different time periods. Violence against women is partly a result of gender relations that assumes men to be superior to women. Given the subordinate status of women, much of gender violence is considered normal and enjoys social sanction. Manifestations of violence include physical aggression, such as blows of varying intensity, burns, attempted hanging, sexual abuse and rape, psychological violence through insults, humiliation, coercion, blackmail, economic or emotional threats, and control over speech and actions. In extreme, but not unknown cases, death is the result. These expressions of violence take place in a man-woman relationship within the family, state and society. Usually, domestic aggression towards women and girls, due to various reasons remain hidden. Cultural and social factors are interlinked with the development and propagation of violent behaviour.

Title | : | Domestic Violence and Child Abuse |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Mrs. B. Bala Parameswari |
Abstract: Human rights are the basic and absolute rights that every person has because he or she is a human being. Every human being has these rights although the extent to which they can be enforced in practice varies from country to country. At the international level most of these basic human rights have been described in the United Nations (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948. While there is considerable variation in national legislation between countries, most constitutions worldwide state that everyone is equal before the law, and that each person is entitled to equal protection under the law without any discrimination. A growing body of clinical experience and research reveals that domestic violence and child abuse occur in the same families and are highly associated with similar social and economic risk factors; Data also show that children growing up in violent families are more likely to engage in youth violence. Furthermore, the social and economic risk factors for youth violence correspond to the risk factors for domestic violence and child abuse. Given these findings, an effective strategy to combat child abuse, domestic violence and youth violence would be a collaborative, community-based prevention/early intervention effort that aims to reduce the social and economic risk factors for at-risk families. This paper outlines proposed components of such a program and presents a strong argument for the development of national and local collaborative prevention efforts between the three fields.
