Title | : | Landuse And Landcover Change Detection Of Fringe Areas Of Imphal City,Manipur,India |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Abujam Manglem Singh || Koijam Renubala Devi |
Abstract: The decadal expansion of the Imphal city towards its fringe and ensuing land use /land cover changes have been identified to find out the changes in two different time periods (1989 and 2010). To assess changes in both city and its fringe areas, supervised classification was used and maps of the two study periods were prepared with the help of Remote Sensing and GIS techniques. Results indicate that built up areas have grown into the fringe areas of the city at the expense of other landuse categories with serious implications for socio-economy and environment of the region. Besides, questionnaire survey with 50 respondents of the fringes area corroborates the changes highlighted by the satellite data. The the survey also served to ground truth the findings from satellite data as well as providing other critical insights which helped in comprehending the complex socio-economic and demographic forces driving the land use changes in the Imphal City.

Title | : | Women's role in the Household: A look into the Text Manusmriti |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Ibameai Hepsa Nongbri |
Abstract:As much as the importance of men is depicted in the normative texts, the role played by women who
took part in the society cannot be ignored. As the text was mainly written by the priestly class they tried to
portray how men and women had to behave in the society but more significantly the text can also be seen as an
indicator of how gender relations during the post-Mauryan period are stressed. As this period witnessed a
number of developments, the issue of gender cannot be ignored. One such area is the household where one can
witnessed that patriarchal institutions were kept in high regard which attempted to create patriarchal status in
order to keep women within the private sphere especially in the household.
1 It can be noticed that in most of the normative texts, the compilers have highlighted that the central or the main role of women was only as
wives and not as daughters and laying more emphasis on their reproductive roles.

Weekly, Vol.28, no.14, 3rd April, 1993, pp.579-585.
3 This statement is very evident in the normative texts that were composed in the earlier periods before the composition of the Manusmriti
where the main emphasis is put on the birth of the sons as compared to the birth of daughters.

Title | : | Innovative Teaching of Social Sciences to Enhance Multiple Intelligence |
Country | : | India |

Abstract: Teaching of social science is reduced to a cognitive exercise in modern teaching practices. It not only reduces the broader scope of the subjects under social sciences but also undermines the chances of the holistic development of the child. This article attempts to identify the activities and teaching methods to develop the multiple intelligence of the students. Starting from verbal linguistic intelligence, it identifies the logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal aspects of individual students in context of his social and environmental realities.

Title | : | The Development of Islamic Jurisprudence: Late Thirteenth/Nineteen Century to the Early Present |
Country | : | United Arab Emirates |
Authors | : | Dr. Labeeb Bsoul |
Abstract: Muslims both in the past and present are concerned with the legal validity of their religious devotion and worship, especially in view of their increasing interactions with other civilizations, cultures, behaviors, economies, sciences, legislation, and politics. Confusion however arises in regards to which legal doctrine (madhhab) Muslims need to follow today; what should Muslims do to cope with contemporary problems and challenges of life; and where should they draw lines of distinction between the revealed and profane,as well as between jurisprudence and secular law and legislation in the Muslim world. Some contemporary Muslim scholars have raised serious concerns regarding such issues because of the interaction between the East and West. Muslim scholars and reformers responded to these concerns through a number of legal reform initiatives, and also through alignment and integration of Muslim faith with contemporary needs. This article discusses whether Islamic jurisprudence can dynamically meet the present demands placed on it and the needs it faces while evaluating the reactions taken to preserve the value of Islam in the modern era. Keywords: Reformers, legal reform, Tajdid, Majallat al-Ahkam al-'Adliyyah, Islamic jurisprudence.
