Abstract: Sudden cardiac arrest tops the list of the leading causes of death around the globe, presenting a major public health issue in both developed and developing countries (Zaman and Kovoor, 2014). Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major contributor of cardiac arrests. Persons with a history of MI are four to six times more likely to have a cardiac arrest than members of the general population (Zaman and Kovoor, 2014, p.2426). Globally, the number of deaths resulting from cardiovascular disease in 2008 was 17.3 million, 7.3 million of which resulted from MI (Aljefree and Ahmed, 2015, p.1). In the US, between 350,000 and 400,000 deaths are caused by sudden cardiac arrests annually (Zaman and Kovoor, 2014, p.2426).
