Title | : | Interrogating Shariah Practice in Yoruba land, 1820-1918 |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Isiaka Raifu |
Abstract: The period between 1820 and 1918 has been considered as a golden age in the history of Islam and especially the application of Shariah as a legal code and a way of life in Yoruba land. This is because this period witnessed the emergence and ascension to the throne of some Muslim monarchs who to a very large extent allowed the dictates of Islamic religion to influence their lives and the business of governance in their kingdoms. Although they were converts upon the advent of Islam in Yoruba land, they became learned in the knowledge of Arabic and Islamic studies. With their antecedents, they became friends and helper of Muslims upon their emergence as kings and used the traditional authority as a pillar of support.........

Title | : | The relevance of philosophy in media and communication research |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Abubakar Muhammad (PhD student) |
Abstract: To philosophize we must communicate philosophically. Communication has been an integral part of philosophy. Consequently, we cannot study philosophy without communication; yet, to understand communication we must subject it to philosophical inquiry. The relevance of philosophy in media and communication research cannot be overemphasized. The increasing interdisciplinary nature of scientific inquiry into human behavior has made natural sciences interested in methodologies of the social science. Research philosophy in its nature is to help the researcher evaluate the paradigms of research and the matters of epistemology and ontology. It is commendable that these parameters in social research and in extension communication research support the researcher to describe the research perceptions, elaborate its beliefs, clarify its assumptions and define what reality is.........

It is developing fast and becoming complex due to its ability to incorporate all the other aspects of the main stream mass media. Despite the communicative importance of social media, like any other media, stereotyping on Facebook in Kenya has become improper for the social fabric, yet scholars and leaders seem to give it little attention..........

Title | : | Kufic Ornamental Motifs in the Wall Paintings of Six Churches in Southern Italy |
Country | : | Italy |
Authors | : | Maria Vittoria Fontana |
Abstract: The churches we are concerned with here are in South-eastern Italy where, more than in other parts of Southern Italy (with the exception of Calabria), the Byzantine presence and Byzantine influence were obviously strong.1 Islam arrived on the Apulian coast from the 11th to 13th century was often mediated by Byzantium: this is verifiable in techniques, iconographies and styles. One case in particular concerns the epigraphic characters of Islamic derivation which abound in many media and, specifically, in architectural decoration: in other words, stone, stucco, mosaic, painting and so on. But, if the Byzantine mediation is evident........
