Abstract: Intravenous fluids instead of oral hydration is universal practice in labour. Sufficient rehydration has shown a lessening in labour durationand improve newborn outcome. However results of other studies anticipated that labour duration could be decreased by administering IV fluids at a rate of 120 ml/hr.Aim: Thus, the aim of the current study was to assess the effect of intravenous fluids infusion on the progress of labour and newborn outcome.Design: A descriptive correlationdesign.Setting: The study was conducted at the delivery room and postpartum outpatient clinic in General Hospital, Kafrelshiekh, Egypt. Sample: A convenient sample of 150 labouring women (divided to 50 each group) was selected. Tools:Maternal assessment tool, maternal fluid balance chart,Apgar score tool and newborn follow up sheet were used to collect the data.Results: The current study revealed that the duration of the active phase in the 1st stage of labour was significantly shorter in the glucose alternating........
