Abstract: Extant literature on the causes of the Nigerian Civil War, 1967-1970 emphasises the relevance of other factors that caused the conflict e.g. the coup d‟etat of the same year, the personality clash between Colonels Chukwuemeka O. Ojukwu (Military Governor of the Eastern Region) and Yakubu Gowon (Head of the Federal Military Government) etc. Although these factors were important in the cause of the war, yet it is obvious that a peaceful resolution of the conflict was not impossible, had the allure of oil revenues not been present as a tempting bait to the two Colonels and their supporters as a veritable resource to not only prosecute their respective war aims but also execute their development programmes.

Abstract: Orissa is the land where dry leaves speak about every aspect of life, starting from poignant emotion of love to the hard rules of arithmetic, from canons of law to the riddle of Tantra, Mantra and Yantra. It may sound incredible, but it is true in every sense of words that the palm-leaf manuscripts vividly depict the theme of religion, architecture, medicine, astrology, astronomy, grammar, details about war, arms and armoury, geography, trade routes, occult practices, temple rituals, crafts, literature and so on. The illustrated miniature paintings on the palm leaves also provide a living record of the saratorial styles, cosmetics and coiffure, dance forms, myths and legends and above all, our rich heritage of sociocultural traditions. The very thing that Oriya alphabets have no headmarks like that of Bengali or.............

Abstract: Hitherto there has never been an end to the controversy on the roots and nature of historic Mayamara alias Matak-Moran rebellion of Assam (1769-1805) which paved the way for the decline of magnificent Ahom Monarchy that had been ruling the greater part of the Brahmaputra valley since 1228. A section of scholars has tried to call it a religious war or "crusade‟ waged by the Mayamara Vaishnavas against the oppressive Saktaism of the Ahom Royal family, but unfortunately except a few scholars like Prof. Lila Gogoi, Prof. D. Nath and Prof. S. Dutta, no others has taken care of the internal disturbances within the Mataks during the rebellion which would later determine the ethno-political destiny of the various communities within the Mayamara sect. Some scholars like Dhrubajyoti Bora and Amalendu Guha have tried to reinterpret this event as a class struggle on the part of peasants. However.........

Abstract: Police reports can serve as investigative aids or as pieces of evidence in court. The police officers who make these reports should write them in an accurate, clear and factual manner. Thus, investigation report writing is necessary and is a major duty of those in the criminal justice system. This qualitative content analysis examined the linguistic features and the organizational structure of 30 police reports from the different investigation sections in Davao Region, Philippines. The corpora of the study consist of thievery, shooting incident, murder, stabbing, and drug-related cases. The findings revealed that there are three linguistic features: lexical, syntactical and cohesive devices. Moreover, this legal document is composed of different moves and steps that make up the overall structure of the police reports. Thus, an accurate and clear police report is an important evidence and source of information for any future prosecution.
