Abstract: Research on ethnic humor has been done by a number of scholars. Among the most complete study was conducted by Christie Davis in her work entitled Ethnic Humor Around the Worlds (1997). In that study, Davis discusses the function and theme of ethnic humor. He argues that the function of ethnic humor, in addition to mocking and belittling those who are outside the group, is to maintain and strengthen the sense of identity of the group member.
