Abstract: This paper discusses the narrative structure of one of Suhair ElMusadafa's most recent novels, "The Hyena's Journey" (2018), translated into English by the author and published in Canada by El Haderoun Press in 2023. It will discuss this work in terms of its unique plot structure, philosophy of time, perspective and politics of form. It will argue that these narratological aspects in this particular novel offer re-definitions of conventional narrative cannon as defined by critics such as Gérard Genette in his "Narrative Discourse: An Essay on Method" (1980), Gerald Prince in his "The Form and Functioning of Narrative" (1982), "A Dictionary of Narratology" (1987), and Meike Bal in her "Introduction to the Theory of Narrative" (1985).
