Abstract: Cardiothoracic surgery is the second leading cause of mortality. Pre and post operative teaching was shown to be effective in reducing stress, pain and anxiety. The nurse needs to educate the patient pre and postoperative, and share their knowledge with other patients. Aim of the study: was to evaluate the impact of pre and postoperative education on recovery period following cardiothoracic surgery. Design: A quasi- experimental design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting the study was conducted at the cardiothoracic intensive care unit (ICU) and cardiothoracic surgery department at Mansoura University hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample of 100 patients was included in the study divided into study & control groups.
