Abstract: The conflict in Sri Lanka was one of the complex civil war happened in the modern world. The discontent of the minority community and the response of the government to it was finally resulting in the civil war. The present paper attempts to describe the background of this civil war that lasted for about three decades. Various factors that have interplayed during this period would be discussed in the study.
