Abstract: The Montesquieuan separation of powers (SOPs) was formulated as a problem-solving theory in 1748 to resolve corruption of power. Doing this, a desk review discourse methodology was adopted to interrogate the fundamentals of the theory including review of pertinent literature and selected governance realities. The diagnostic social science approach was approved to do this, to which its first principles is that, all political theories are subject to review and amenable to improvement; hence the endeavour at redefinition and reconceptualization.
