Abstract: Robust research has demonstrated that employees who appraised their working conditions as adverse displayed significantly higher levels of depressive symptoms compared to those who shared a different perspective. Many other employees seemed to thrive in adverse work environments yet seemed to have no depressive symptoms, and many were productive in similar conditions. Police officers are known to work in adverse work environments.
