Abstract: Background: Enteric fever (typhoid and paratyphoid fever)is a major public health concern in developing countries including India. Wide variation in clinical presentations makes its diagnosis on clinical ground a challenging task. Emergence of strain with polymicrobial resistance is a matter of serious concern. This study was conducted in a tertiary care settingto study the myriad clinical manifestations, complications &antibiotic sensitivity pattern of typhoid fever in children. Methodology: This prospective observational study was done at N.M.C.H, Patna from November 2017- April 2019 (18 months).Children between 1-16 years of age with fever for >3 days and suspicion of enteric fever wereenrolled and investigated. 60 blood culture positive......

Abstract: Mediastinal abscesses are mostly seen following thoracic surgical procedures. Isolated and primary spontaneous abscess in the mediastinum by fungal organisms is an extremely rare condition. We report an interesting case of mucormycosis causing anterior mediastinal abscess with invasion of adjacent rib, sternum and anterior chest wall

Abstract: Background: Recent studies have shown that displaced mid-shaft clavicular fractures do not have assured favorable outcomes with non-operative management and nonunion rates could be as high as 20%. In addition many malunite with significant shourtening. Non-union or malunion causes functional deficit and many of them may benefit from primary internal fixation. This study was under taken to evaluate the efficacy of pre contured plate LCP in treating clavicular fractures. Patients and Methods: In this study 35 patients with clavicular fractures were choosen between 20-50 years of age treated with pre contured LCP. 5 cases were established non-union after treatment with conservative methods........

Abstract: Since succinylcholine presents numerous adverse effects, there has been a continual search for a non-depolarizing muscle relaxant that can replicate the rapid onset of succinylcholine. Rocuronium is chosen since it is the non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking drug in clinical use with the fastest onset time. Priming with Rocuronium improves the onset time when compared to a single intubating dose of Rocuronium. Onset of action of muscle relaxants is influenced by cardiac output and muscle blood flow. Ephedrine, which produces an increase in both cardiac output and muscle blood flow, reduces the onset time of Rocuronium. Priming combined with ephedrine may be superior to either technique used separately. The present study was aimed to evaluate the effects of ephedrine.......

Abstract: Introduction:. At present FNAC of the thyroid is considered by many as first line procedure and it is fully accepted in the diagnostic work up of patients in conjunction withtraditional methods. FNAC is widely accepted the most accurate, non-invasive, sensitive, specific and cost effective diagnostic procedure in the assessment of thyroid nodules andhelps to select people pre operatively for surgery. The main purpose of FNAC thyroid is to distinguish patients with malignantnodules and those with benign nodules. It is the procedure of choice in the initialscreening of thyroid nodules. A prospective work aimed to study the spectrum of cytological features of thyroidlesions in patients with thyroid....

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Primary aldosteronism as a cause of secondary hypertension is frequently overlooked and underdiagnosed. This case report highlights the importance of screening for aldosteronism in patients with hypertension and hypokalemia. METHOD: The case record of the index patient. RESULT: A 41year old female civil servant, referred to the endocrine clinic from a peripheral center on account of persistent hypokalemia. Hypokalemia was diagnosed accidentally during a routine medical screening 5 years prior to presenting at the endocrine clinic. There was positive history of polyuria and nocturia. She was also diagnosed hypertensive at about the same time and commenced on Amlodipine. General examination and systemic examination were.......

Abstract: The occurrence of palato-gingival groove on the lateral incisor is extremely rare developmental anomaly. This case report describes the prompt diagnosis to unreveal this etiology and treatment options to treat this defect. The tooth was treated by saucerization, apicectomy and retrograde restoration with glass ionomer cement. After 1 year follow up of treatment, the tooth was functional without any signs and symptoms clinically and radiographic changes were positive. The knowledge of tooth anatomy and its morphological defects offers a strong base for establishing a perfect diagnosis. Proper understanding of the endo-perio relationship is important because it frequently dictates the treatment plan..

Abstract: Considering the theoretical assumptions of the role stress theory (Kahn, Holf, Quinn, Snoek & Rosenthal, 1964) suggesting that occupying multiple roles (e.g. work and family) can unleash stress on families, and institutional theory (Scott, 2008) also suggesting that institutions and people in other national contexts especially developing countries may be exposed to different factors which influence their management practices, this cross-sectional survey of 129 Nigeria career mothers between 23 to 48 years investigated work-to-family conflict: health implications for their children under five years among career mothers who attended postnatal clinic in a Teaching Hospital in Enugu urban, Nigeria. A survey instrument comprising demographic information, work variables of.....

Abstract: Aim: To assess the antimicrobial efficacy of aqueous and gaseous ozone as an alternative antiseptic against endodontic pathogen Enterococcus faecalis in suspension. Methodology: Enterococcus faecalis, were grown in Mc conkey media in planctonic phenotype. Cultures were exposed to ozone gas, aqueous ozone & sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl; 0.5%), (control) for 1 min and the colony forming units were determined before and after exposure. Statistical analysis used: Data were analyzed by one way ANOVA with Tamhane post hoc tests to compare independent samples (ά=0.05). Results: Concentrations of gaseous ozone for I min/53ug almost and aqueous ozone 1min/20ug completely eliminated the suspended microorganisms as did 0.5% NaOCl. Conclusion: High-concentrated gaseous and aqueous ozone was dose-, strain- and time-dependently effective against the tested microorganisms in suspension.
